John 1:1
:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory,

"The Word Was God"
The proper reference to the Creator of John 1:1 - 1:3 prior to His
manifestation in the flesh, is the "Word". The Son of God is a title that is
properly ascribed to the Man Jesus of Nazareth who was born of the virgin Mary.
To inject the name "Jesus" into John 1:1 is error. Also, to inject the title
of "Son of God" into John 1:1 is erroneous for the same reason. See 1st John 5:7
for reference support in this matter, as well as Revelation 19:13.
1st John 5:7
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Revelation 19:13
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
