"...therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the son of God." Luke 1:35
If you have never before heard the Gospel of Jesus of Nazareth,
then one of the facts of His life that is a basis for understanding the nature
of the salvation that we have in Him, is that He was born of a woman who was a
virgin. Let me say that once again. Mary (Miriam) the mother of Jesus was a
virgin at which time this child called Jesus (Yeshua) was conceived in her womb.
GOD spoke to mankind through His prophets of old as they "...spake as they were moved
by the Holy Ghost" (2nd Peter 1:21). During the centuries prior to the birth of Yeshua
of Nazareth many prophecies of the Messiah to come were written. This one, from Micah,
tells that Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.
Micah 5:2
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou
be little among the thousands of Judah,
yet out of thee shall he come forth
unto me that is to be ruler in Israel;
whose goings forth have been from of old,
from everlasting.
|
This scripture, shows a far greater sign:
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you
a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive,
and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel.
|
This miracle of GOD in a virgin giving birth, was to be the foremost sign of
the coming of Messiah. This special birth would mark the Holy One of
Israel, sent by GOD into the world to save His people from their sins.
Mary (Miriam) had been "espoused" (engaged) to Joseph to be married when
this happened:
Matthew 1:18-25
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise:
When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph,
before they came together, she was found with child
of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and
not willing to make her a publick example, was
minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream,
saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take
unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived
in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt
call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people
from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled
which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall
bring forth a son, and they shall call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the
angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him
his wife:
25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her
firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

In the above, Matthew writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
refers directly to this miraculous virgin birth of Jesus as being
fulfillment to the aforementioned Isaiah prophecy. Joseph obeyed the angel of
the Lord and did not know His wife Mary, until after the birth of her firstborn
son, Yeshua, the SON of GOD.
Conceived of the Holy Ghost-- The facts of the conception of Jesus are,
- 1. since Joseph was not his father,
took no part in the conception
process...,
- 2. but that Mary was 'overshadowed' [Luke 1:35]
by the power of the most high GOD, and
therefore conceived of the Holy Ghost,
- 3. then Yeshua is indeed the Son of God.
Here is Luke 1:35 in it's entirety;
Luke 1:35
And the angel answered and said unto her,
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and
the power of the Highest shall overshadow
thee: therefore also that holy thing which
shall be born of thee shall be called the
Son of God.

The point here is that the seed of this child
was directly from GOD the Father Almighty. Yeshua
was GOD's holy Son, who became man through this
miraculous conception by a virgin, as foretold in
the scriptures. And though he was the Son of man,
via the woman, it is very crutial to understand
that Yeshua was none-the-less very GOD in the
flesh. Remember that GOD is Spirit [John 4:24],
and it was the Spirit of GOD that dwelt in the man,
Yeshua.
Question: How much Spirit?
Here is an important question to ask, while
searching out the reality that Yeshua was the Son
of GOD-- and very GOD. How much of this Spirit
resided in Him, the Son? Ten percent? One third?
No. GOD's word declares that;
Col 2:9
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
|
That's right, friend-- One GOD [Deuteronomy 6:4] is the main fact about
the nature of God. When you look at Messiah Yeshua, you are looking at very GOD,
the great "I am" [John 8:58]. As you have the opportunity read along in the Gospel of John,
chapter 14 and you will see Christ state this awesome truth.
1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of
godliness: God was manifest in the flesh,
justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached
unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world,
received up into glory.

It was this precious SON of GOD, whom the Father gave.
