Now, looking from the rear, we can view the stage which produced so many of our memories,
from weekly assemblies, to the Student Council meetings, to presentations by special guests, such as scientist
or the Philadelphia Police Department, class Plays such as Babes In Toyland produced by Miss Wholley
rather Mrs. Stalker in third grade as Nancy advises, and the
already mentioned storytime by Miss Jaeger our Principal in the '60's.
Everyone who was there, remembers the astounding Murals that were painted on the walls on
either side of the stage. For many days, as I sat in Assembly, I would appreciate them as I gazed at the Pilgrims
who were shown there. These Murals were a lesson in themselves. They were the subject of entertainment as well.
I remember specifically that on the Mural on the Right side of the stage (closest to the Hallway) was a dog, curled
up and asleep in the middle of the Pilgrim's activities. Once (unfortunately right in the middle of Assembly, David
Russell leaned over to me and said, "Look at that little mutt over there asleep in the corner." I remember breaking
out laughing however hard I tried to quell that reaction.
It's hard to believe I am seeing it again since graduation in 1968. When was the last time
you saw this seen? Will you look at those polished wood floors. Someone has really made an effort to keep this
place in top notch condition. Special thanks to Nancy Uhle for this presentation. -ms
