1. PURPOSE: Resolved: The 70 Weeks of Daniel 9 are Contiguous
    It is the purpose of this writing to show that the "Seventy Weeks of Daniel" vision contained in Daniel chapter nine is contigous (unbroken). At this point it is assumed/understood that the reader is aware of the overall time period associated with the vision and that the "weeks" referred to are actually a period of seven years each.

2. Looking Closely at All of the events of Daniel 9:24
    As we begin the passage at verse 24, we must take note that all- I repeat all of the events of verse 24 are to be accomplished within the 70 week period, according to the prophecy. Looking at the verse:

Daniel 9:24
24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Make sure to take note of these two outstanding events;
  • The 1st: "to make an end of sins", and
  • The 2nd: "to make reconciliation for iniquity".
  • These two events must take place within the 70 week period, and that point is crucial to the case for a contiguous 70 weeks.

    2. Messiah Cut Off After the 69th Week
        Now moving to verses 25 & 26, we find that after- I repeat after the initial 69 week period ends, then and only then "shall Messiah be cut off".

    Daniel 9:25,26
    25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
    26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
    Since this verse teaches that Messiah shall be cut off after the threescore and two weeks, (or after the 69th week) then this event of the cutting off of Messiah (which we know to be the crucifixion of Yeshua of Nazareth) must take place during the 70th or last week. Why? Because verse 24 just got finished telling us that all of the events listed in it would occur within the 70 week period! For this reason... the 70th week of Daniel must have started immediately at the end of the 69th week, or we have no atonement for our sins.

    3. SUMMARY

  • Since Daniel 9:24 teaches that reconciliation would be made for our sins by this Messiah who would come within a determined 70 week period,
  • and Since verse 26 teaches that His atonement would happen after the 69th week...
    Then we who believe that Yeshua of Nazareth is the Messiah of Israel must conclude that the 70 weeks of Daniel began immediately after the end of the 69th, because it was indeed Yeshua who gave His life for our sins. Take care before you rubber stamp a "Gap Theory #2" which places an approximate 2,000 year gap between the 69th and 70th week of Daniel as is so often taught.
